چکیده
In this study, three common biodegradable plastics, namely, poly(hydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV), poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) and adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) were all buried in a mixture of landfill soil wastewater sludge incubated under thermophilic (61°C) oxygen-limited conditions. At the end 90-day test, degradation ranking order was PHBV > PBS PBAT. Only completely degraded over 60 days, while PBAT displayed 24.04% ± 3.37% 18.26% 3.77% weight loss, respectively. The differences disintegration profiles among these materials observed. results showed that lost its thickness from edges specimens. Both reduced into small fragile fragments during process. SEM micrographs revealed irregular roughness with many holes cracks characteristic PHBV, slightly smooth surfaces found on All continuous decreases thermal stability percentage carbon content molecular structures after test. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy chemical structure changed biodegradation both unchanged same test However, peak for carboxylate ions samples. Having deep understanding degradability behavior can contribute to development plastic waste management future.

Degradation of Biodegradable/Degradable Plastics in Municipal Solid-Waste Landfill
This paper provides information about biodegradability of biodegradable/degradable materials advertised as 100%-degradable or certified as compostable in a municipal solid-waste landfill. It describes a 12month experiment with five samples that took place in a landfill. The results, demonstrated that the polyethylene sample with the additive (samples 1) and sample labelled as 100% degradable (s...

Degradabilities of four kinds of commercial biodegradable plastics (BPs), polyhydroxybutyrate and hydroxyvalerate (PHBV) plastic, polycaprolactone plastic (PCL), blend of starch and polyvinyl alcohol (SPVA) plastic and cellulose acetate (CA) plastic were investigated in waste landfill model reactors that were operated as anaerobically and aerobically. The application of forced aeration to the l...

The volume of sludge produced annually is very high and poses serious disposal problems. The traditional methods of sludge disposal produce secondary pollutants. Therefore, the alternate or suitable solution is reuse of sludge in an ecofriendly approach. Biotechnology is an interesting tool to add value to the processes involved in wastewater and wastewater sludge disposal/reuse. In this contex...
متن کاملThe Utilization of Activated Sludge Polyhydroxyalkanoates for the Production of Biodegradable Plastics
Sequencing batch reactor (SBR) systems were used for the development of a system and operating procedures for the high production and storage of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) by wastewater treatment (activated sludge) bacterial cultures. The systems were maintained at a nominal hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 10 hours, and a temperature of 20°C. The solids retention time (SRT) was maintained a...

Packaging waste forms a significant part of municipal solid waste and has caused increasing environmental concerns, resulting in a strengthening of various regulations aimed at reducing the amounts generated. Among other materials, a wide range of oil-based polymers is currently used in packaging applications. These are virtually all non-biodegradable, and some are difficult to recycle or reuse...
